Science communication
Before studying frontend development, I used to work as a science journalist. I did that for 13 years. My job was to interview scientist, researchers, and all those folks who spend 80% their adult lives in a laboratory. I had to "translate" their complicated words, theories and experiments into a language that could be understood by basically anyone – including people like my grandmother, who may know a great deal about gardening but not much about, say, remote sensing or exascale computing.
A bit more than a decade, 4 continents, 30 countries, 426 articles, 2 books, a few podcasts, dozens of scientific conferences and hundreds of interviews later, here's the most important lessons that this journey has taught me:
If you can't explain it clearly and simply, you don't understand it well enough.
This quote is often attributed to Albert Einstein, although there are no written records proving its authorship. I’ve recently realised that this idea is also valuable in the IT industry!
